mariner kennels
about us...
Mariner Kennels follows a tradition of sixty-plus years of dog breeding and competition - in the early 1940's,
family matriach Harriet Long founded the Corgi kennel known as Willets. From our first Golden Retriever
imported from England in 1982 - Can. Ch. Vurengold Ace Alliance - we have slowly and methodically focused
our efforts to produce only the finest quality show, working and companion Golden Retrievers and Pembroke
Welsh Corgis. Our goal is to produce sound, healthy dogs in strict adherence to the breed standard, who are
equally adept as multi-purpose competitors or companions on the couch. Our dogs are a full time avocation for
us, evidenced by the many hours of training, grooming, and conditioning involved in their care.
After fourteen years in coastal Maine, we relocated in July 2006 to a forty-two acre farm near Lexington,
Kentucky (Nicholas County). The name Hundridge Farm was chosen for two reasons: in England, the village of
Hundridge is the ancestral home of the Chase family, and the name literally means "hound's ridge" - what could
be more appropriate!
The Bluegrass region of Kentucky is renowned for its rolling hills and picturesque horse farms, and is an area
rich in early American history - part of our farm dates to 1825, and is listed on the National Register of Historic
Places. Currently Hundridge Farm is home to multiple dogs, four horses, and two cats.
We breed only a few litters each year - quality is far more important to us than quantity. All breeding stock is
carefully screened for pre-existing hereditary conditions, and only those with current clearances are accepted
into our breeding program. All puppies are sold with a written contract which provides health and temperament
warranties for companion animals, and additional show ring warranties for those puppies sold as show
prospects.
We are current members of the Golden Retriever Club of America, Lexington Kennel Club, Greater Louisville
Golden Retriever Club, Yankee Golden Retriever Club, and Mayflower Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club, and have
held offices in several of these clubs. We are the founders and past co-directors of Golden Retriever Rescue of
Maine, Inc. and are founding members of the Nicholas County Animal Welfare Society, Inc.
Visits to Mariner Kennels are arranged by appointment only.
